Job Title:  COMPUTER TECHNICIAN II

FLSA: Exempt

 

TITLE: Computer Technician II

                             

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of college-level coursework in computer science, information technology or a related field preferred. Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) preferred.
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, read printed materials and a computer screen, and to communicate in person, electronically and over the telephone.
  • Have working knowledge of PC and Mac computer hardware, software and peripherals, mobile devices, servers, monitors, cables, network systems, printers, and other low voltage systems (phones, bells, intercoms, security systems, etc).
  • Supports the functions, operations and technology related to District’s financial, business and administrative applications and related hardware and software.
  • Ability to stay current on technology related to District’s applications, networks and telecommunications and the equipment and software required to maximize system support.
  • Knowledge of procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing applicable software, hardware and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, hardware and software related to the establishment and maintenance of hard wired and Wi-Fi based LAN’s and WAN’s and establish techniques for explaining technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
  • Must have personal transportation and be willing to drive to different locations within the District, often multiple times each day.
  • Must have smartphone with text and email.
  • Must be willing to have a flexible schedule which may include night/weekend work.

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

 

JOB GOAL: Under supervision of the Director of Technology, and in collaboration with District Server and Network/Security Administrators, provide front-line support on multiple campuses across the District. Install, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, peripheral equipment and relevant software applications: assess user training needs and train users in effective use of educational and informational technologies: make recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions. Perform related work and other duties as assigned.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Installing, configuring and upgrading operating systems and software, applications in collaboration with Network/Security Administrator and Server Administrator.
  • Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, email, network and peripheral equipment. Makes repairs and corrections where required. Instructs users on new or upgraded computer applications and hardware.
  • Installing, configuring, assembling and repairing computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers and related hardware. Pulls cables as required or assists in the directing of the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration.
  • Uses initiative and independent judgment to collaborate with Technology Team in establishing standards, conventions, and department operating procedures and practices.
  • Organizes own work, setting priorities and meeting critical time deadlines.
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, subordinates, superiors, the general public, representatives of public and private organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; staffs a centralized help desk to facilitate exchange of information and advice; implements solutions or notifies outsource providers as required.
  • Makes hardware and software acquisition recommendations including helping users access needs and providing justification for equipment and services.
  • Assists in instructing District staff in the use of all software applications utilized in all levels of District business and educational operations including word processing, spreadsheets and database management, Cloud-based SAAS applications, mobile applications, educational software (i.e. Galileo, SchoolFusion, BeyondTextbooks, Read180, Destiny, etc.); provides instruction or written documentation where required.
  • Assists with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware.
  • Uses a system of problem-solving and troubleshooting for District employees through the support systems implemented for staff to convey needs to the technology team.
  • Provide front-line support on multiple campuses across the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months. Salary established by the Governing Board. Employee benefits in accordance with district policies.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the Governing Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
